Presidency Says Buhari’s Transition Committee Making ‘Impossible Demands’

The Federal Government on Wednesday opposed some of the terms of reference of the transition committee set up by President-elect Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari’s committee, headed by Ahmed Joda, has among its framework the duty of delivering essentials to Nigerian people.

Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Sulaiman, disclosed the Federal Government’s stand at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

Sulaiman, chairman of the technical sub-committee of the Federal Government’s transition committee, said the council has warned the incoming government against running a parallel government. He said President Goodluck Jonathan’s magnanimity should not be taken as a sign of cowardice.

This development seemed to have sparked of a disagreement between the transition committees of the President and the President-elect as the Federal Government claimed the Buhari committee was acting like a parallel government.

Suleiman, speaking with newsmen at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, also said the Buhari committee was making impossible demands from the outgoing government.
