NCAA To Meet Foreign Airlines Over Rejection Of Naira

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority says it will convene a meeting with foreign airline operators over their alleged rejection of naira payment for flight tickets.
The General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA, Mr Sam Adurogboye, on Tuesday confirmed that the NCAA had received complaints from some passengers.
Adurogboye said that the passengers had the right to make payments in naira.
He noted that the industry was facing some challenges, particularly the scarcity of foreign exchange and inability of foreign airlines to repatriate their funds.

Nigeria’s Foreign Reserves Drop To $24.74bn

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, says Nigeria’s foreign reserves have reduced from $26.51 billion in the second quarter of 2016 to $24.74 billion in September.
Udoma on Tuesday said this at the 57th annual conference of Nigerian Economic Society with the theme “the developmental state and diversification of the Nigerian economy”.
He said Nigeria had revenue and foreign currency concentration problems, adding that diversification was the only solution.

Journalists Face Accreditation Challenge In Edo

 

Less than 24 hours to Wednesday’s governorship election in Edo State, many journalists who had arrived the state for coverage of the exercise were yet to be accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Many of the journalists besieged the commission’s headquarters in the state at Ikpoba Hill as early as 7am on today and have remained unattended to by officials the officials, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
After several hours of waiting and struggling to see the possibility of going through with the accreditation, most of them were referred to the state’s council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists for identification before they would be accredited.

India Seeks Greater Economic Cooperation With Nigeria

 

The Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari, has called for greater economic cooperation between his country and Nigeria, to enhance the economy of the two countries.
Noting that India was Nigeria’s biggest trading partner, Ansari, stated that the two countries have common aspirations to improve the socio-economic status of their citizens.
The VP said this during the inauguration of the chancery of the Indian High Commission on Monday in Abuja.

Nigeria Has Liquidity Problem, Not Debt Crisis – Adesina

 
President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has dispelled the fears being expressed in some quarters about the country being in debt crisis.
He made the clrification while addressing State House Correspondents after a delegation of the bank met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Economic Management Team.
Adesina said the country was facing tough times but added that it was not in debt crisis but rather having liquidity problems.

The Dangote Industries Limited $17 billion refinery project will create over 300,000 direct and indirect jobs by the first quarter of 2019, the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Olakunle Alake, has said.



Alake on Monday said that the refinery, petrochemicals and fertiliser plants were in one location.
He said the project would be the single largest stream in the world.

Okoja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 29-year-old applicant, Anyaogu Samuel in prison for allegedly killing his two daughters.
The accused was brought to the court by the police for allegedly killing his nine months old daughter, Chinoso, and two-year-old Miracle.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Tuesday Ganagana, told the court that the children were killed on December 25, 2015 and January 1, 2016.

EFCC Loses Case Against Human Rights Lawyer, Adegboruwa

The High Court of Lagos State, presided over by Justice A. Opesanwo has set aside and vacated the interim order of forfeiture by which the house and property of one Mr. Jonathan Udeagbala, was purported to have been attached by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in August 2012.
In May, Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, was charged to court for allegedly dealing in property forfeited by order of court to the Federal Government through the EFCC.
