Residents Fled Marte Before Boko Haram’s Invasion – Military



                      The Defence authorities says most residents of Marte in Borno State fled the border town before the the Boko Haram recaptured the community on Friday.
There have been media reports that the insurgents struck and recaptured Marte, which was liberated from the insurgents by troops in February this year.
However, the military stated that the reported presence of insurgents in Marte should not be misinterpreted to mean a resurgence of terrorists activities in the area.

The sentence on Friday came after 14 hours of deliberations on whether Tsarnaev, who was a teenager when he carried out the attacks with his elder brother, Tamerlan, should be imprisoned for the rest of his life or be executed.

Boko Haram Kills 55 In Borno Villages

                       Boko Haram fighters have killed at least 55 people in Bale and Kayamla villages, two communities near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Residents who spoke with AFP said the insurgents also burnt several homes after looting them before proceeding to the outskirts of Maiduguri, where they were crushed by troops.

“They killed 30 people in Kayamla and another 25 in Bale,” a vigilante official, Abacha Zinnari, said.

7 Ekiti Doctors Receive Kidnap Threat

 



                                          The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Ekiti, Dr John Akinbote, on Tuesday said seven doctors working in Ekiti State had received threat messages from kidnappers.
This is as members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Akure Zone, called for overhauling of the security chiefs in Ekiti State over what they called “poor professional handling” of a kidnap case of their member, Dr. Femi Omisore.

Student Shot By Boko Haram Dies

                   Named: Musa Umar Gamari, one of the students shot by Boko Haram during a gunfire in Potiskum, northern Nigeria, has been confirmed dead.
Gamari sustained injuries after being shot in the chest and was confirmed dead on Monday, May 11, 2015. He has since been buried in accordance with Islamic custom.

The dreaded insurgents had attacked the College of Business and Administrative Studies in Potiskum, Yobe state last week and reportedly shot five of the students during the attack.

Senate Passes Tobacco Bill Into Law



                  The Senate on Tuesday, passed into law, the National Tobacco Control Bill 2015 (Senate Bill) and 2014 (Executive Bill) which seek to repeal the Tobacco (Control) Act 1990.\The bill specifies the specific places where users of cigarette could smoke and areas where smoking was forbidden.

The 52-clause document also prescribed various punishments for either the smoker who flouts the law or owner of public places who failed to paste ‘No Smoking’ inscription on their premises.

Old Woman Kidnaps 3-Year-Old Girl,Uses Her For Begging

                The parents of the girl had declared her missing on Wednesday, March 25th, as a 70-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping a 3-year-old girl in Ilorin, Kwara State, and using her for begging.
One of the girls relatives spotted her with the suspect at a worship place, popularly called Ori-Oke at Basin area of Ilorin, where she was seen begging.

760 Killed, 20,590 Animals Lost In Zamfara – FULANI LEADER

 


                    No fewer than 760 Fulani have in the last five months lost their lives to self-security volunteers, otherwise known as Yan Sakai, in Zamfara State.
State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Association, Alhaji Tukur Jangebe, who disclosed this while speaking to Vanguard in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, said the group also hauled away 6,790 cows, 13,400 sheep, over 400 camels, food items, motorcycles and burnt many houses within the last four months.

The General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Esan, told our correspondent on the telephone on Monday that the task forces entrusted with the responsibility of resolving the issue of the outstanding workers salaries sent out various teams to the states on Monday.

Ogun Monarch Denies Alleged Plot To Assassinate Prince

 


                    The Olowo of Owo  in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Patrick Fasinu, has refuted accusation that he was planning to assassinate a prince from another ruling house over the latter’s popularity.
The monarch made the denial at a reconciliatory meeting held at Owo Community High School in Oke-Odan on Saturday.

He swore by the throne that he never had such heinous intention.

              A lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Dr. Femi Omisore, was kidnapped by unidentified persons at the weekend.
It was gathered that the lecturer was kidnapped at Ado-Ekiti, while on his way to Oye-Ekiti.
The lecturer, it was learned, works at the Department of Environmental Design Ma-nagement of the institution.

                    Argentina Citizens, became angry at a farmer and his family when they learned that a goat was born with a human head.
However, the farmer said that she buried the goat because the family feared it would bring them bad luck. Olga Villalba said that the goat was already dead when it was born, and she blamed pesticides for it being born with a human head.

28 Killed In Iraq Bomb Attacks, IS Clashes



              A total of 28 people were killed, including three suicide bombers, and over 28 others wounded in bomb attacks and clashes with the Islamic State (IS) militants across Iraq on Sunday, while gunmen abducted nine people in eastern the country, security sources said.
In Iraq’s western province of Anbar, heavy clashes erupted between the Iraqi security forces and allied militias, known as Hashd Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization, and the IS militants in south of the IS-held city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, a provincial security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

7 Injured, Vehicles Vandalized As Hoodlums Go On Rampage In Lagos



                        No fewer than seven persons sustained injuries when armed hoodlums attacked residents of Giwa Street, Adeniyi Street and Cole Street along tollgate in Mushin area of Lagos State.
It was learned that the hoodlums, numbering about 20, stormed the streets, beginning from Fadeyi Bus Stop, attacking  motorcyclists, traders and vandalizing vehicles parked on the streets.

The incident saw residents scampering for safety, while the hoodlums robbed passers-by of their belongings and valuables at gunpoint.

                     Outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan said Sunday that some of his friends deserted him shortly after he conceded defeat to his rival General Muhammadu Buhari in the March election.
Jonathan publicly conceded defeat to Buhari on March 31, a decision which was commended by local and foreign commentators and doused tension in the country.

Speaking at a thanksgiving and farewell service in his honour at the Cathedral Church of the Advent Life-Camp, Gwarinpa,  Abuja, President Jonathan cited the case of the former South African Apartheid leader,  F.W de Klerk whose wife divorced him for ending minority rule in South Africa.

                       Deborah knows just what to say to the 275 women and children who were held hostage by Boko Haram and rescued recently by the Nigerian military.
“We will pray together, then after praying together I will advise them to forgive the people who mistreated them because if you forgive people God also forgives you,” she said.

The 19-year-old speaks from experience: she was among another group of 276 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram fighters from her secondary school in the remote northeastern town of Chibok, on April 14 last year.
