As a teenager in the 70s, Mrs. Iyabo Yomi’s greatest dream was to climb the social ladder at all costs. Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has called on Christians and Muslims in the country to avoid using the instrument of religion to cause disharmony among themselves.
The call was contained in an address presented at the 53rd Annual Synod of the Methodist Diocese of Lagos on Friday.
The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Christian Religious Matters, Rev. Adefunmilayo Akitoye—Buraimo, said the support of the religious community is important to the implementation of government policies.

The Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), the gas transportation arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said that an average of 200 million standard cubic feet (mscf) of natural gas production and supply was lost each time its Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) was sabotaged at any of its points. Going by the reviewed pricing regime of $2.80 per million standard cubic feet (mscf) for natural gas to Nigeria’s electricity industry, gas suppliers in the country may be losing an average of N112,000,000 ($560,000) daily revenue on deferment of gas production and supplies to power plants due to pipeline breaks.
NGC stated this on Friday in Warri, shortly after inspecting a recent break at the Inikorogha community axis of its ELPS where vandals blew up a section of the line early Monday morning, that between January and March, it had recorded three breaks on the same line.

                  Even the counsel to the Lagos State government, Akingbolahan Adeniran agreed to the existence of inconsistencies and urged the coroner to grant them some time to study the documents properly before addressing the issues raised.

Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, yesterday, denied being behind spurious lawsuits aimed at scuttling the rescheduled March 28 and April 11, 2015 elections. He also denied being given the sum of N2 billion by President Goodluck Jonathan to sponsor cases in court to disqualify Major General Muhammadu Buhari.
The AGF made the clarification in a statement made available to Saturday Vanguard by his Senior Special Assistant, Mr. Peter Akper, in Abuja on Friday. This came in response to an online publication, which had accused him of sponsoring spurious groups with the huge war chest he received from the President to stop Buhari from contesting the election or halt the polls altogether.

Super Eagles of Nigeria and West Brom striker, Brown Ideye has revealed his mother almost stopped him from achieving his dreams of becoming a footballer.

The forum is a condolence message issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim on Friday in Kaduna, noted that the late Emir, who ruled Gusau from District Head to first class Emir for more than 30 years, devoted his life to the progress of his people in the areas of agriculture, education and socio-economic development of Zamfara State as a whole.

At least 58 people were today killed in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, following three bomb blasts, including one by a female suicide attacker.
Many children were among the dead and at least 50 others were among the about 140 wounded in the explosions that hit two crowded markets and a busy bus station. The attack believed to have been orchestrated by Islamist sect Boko Haram is the latest in a series of renewed attacks that have hit the country’s northeast in recent times.

                  Eligible voters in Niger State on Saturday complained of the delay encountered with the card reader machine and expressed fears that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may not meet up with the time allocated for accreditation of voters during election.
                   This was the view of some voters during the card reader testing held in Gwada, Shiroro Local Government area of Niger state.
                   Despite the large turn out, most of voters could not participate in the exercise for having their permanent voters card (PVC).

A ten-year-old boy in Ireland has saved his sister from being abducted. The boy jumped onto a moving SUV to save his 12-year-old sister from a convicted sex offender.
The children, along with a second brother, were playing outside near the Cullahill village when a man asked for directions to a priest's home, The Irish Independent reports. The man grabbed the girl, but her heroic brother jumped through the driver's window and punched him. While the driver was distracted, his sister escaped from the car.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, yesterday, described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a ‘nationalist, a teacher, a disciplinarian and a tutor in dignity and boldness’. He said the former leader remained very committed to Nigeria.
Speaking at a lecture which held in Abeokuta as part of Obasanjo’s 87th birthday, Tinubu also disclosed the role played by Obasanjo during the merger of some political parties to form the APC. According to him, the former President accepted the offer given to him to be their navigator.
“When we started this present regime of merger and alliances, and we visited him and we told him we wanted him to be a navigator, he said, ‘navigator? The Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port Command, James Caulcrick, says his command lacks adequate arms and ammunition to effectively police the port.
He lodged this complaint to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Maritime Command, Kalafite Adeyemi, when she visited the zone in Port Harcourt.
According to Caulcrick, the greater challenges facing the command are inadequate arms and ammunition for effective patrol and guard duties within the ports and its environs, lack of gunboats and patrol boats, as well as lack of personalized radio transmission network within the barracks. He also mentioned shortage of operational vehicles, barracks accommodation for Port Police personnel and inadequate staffing of the Command.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, says some sections of Lagos roads would be closed for some hours on Saturday.
In a statement by the Commissioner, Ikorodu Road from Maryland through Funsho Williams Avenue to Teslim Balogun Stadium would be closed between the hours of 8am and 2pm owing to the Mass On Street Rally organised by the Buhari Osinbajo Campaign Organisation.

He said that about 200 officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), have been deployed to manage the traffic situation and other incidences in the state.

               Bola Tinubu, on Thursday admitted former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, re-shaped his life positively.
                  Mr. Tinubu, who is a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, stated this at Mr. Obasanjo’s 78th birthday lecture held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
                Mr. Obasanjo caught Mr. Tinubu unawares at the occasion, when he called on the former governor to address the guests.
“You trapped me innocently with a great wisdom of a 78-year-old,” Mr. Tinubu said. “I’m honoured to be here and many of you will see this as a rare occasion but this is an opportunity to pay tribute to a nationalist, a teacher, a disciplinarian and a tutor in dignity and boldness.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the planned One-Million-Man March by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos as a plot by the party to cause chaos and pandemonium in the State, so as to take the minds of the public away from the lies they told about the health status of the party's presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd).
The governor also said that he had been vindicated by Buhari, having admitted that he actually travelled to the United Kingdom to rest and that he visited his doctors.

According to a statement issued on Friday, by the governor's Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, "walking the streets of Lagos by the APC won't remove the fact that the party is a congregation of liars and deceitful people, who can never be trusted with the resources of Nigeria and its people."

Peace talks between South Sudan’s government and rebels adjourned Friday with no date set for the next meeting, a mediation official said.
Fighting erupted in December 2013 after a political dispute in which President Salva Kiir sacked Riek Machar as deputy president.

East African intergovernmental body IGAD, which organised the talks, will issue a statement later on Friday, the official said.

An aquarium worker gave his girlfriend a surprise with an underwater marriage proposal when he asked the question from inside a shark tank.
The worker at Sea Life Aquarium in Tempe, identified as Evan Dresler, enlisted the help of colleagues at the facility to have his girlfriend, Jessica, brought to the tank where sharks and eels are kept so he could surprise her by unfolding a sign with his marriage proposal.

Members of the terrorist group Boko Haram have been gathering in the northeast town of Gwoza, now said to be the group’s headquarters. They killed residents who were unable to flee, a senator and witnesses told reporters on Thursday.
According to a female resident who fled Gwoza and spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, the insurgents rounded up elderly men who were studying the Holy Quran outside the home of a local cleric and later killed them in front of their wives.

The National Publicity Director of Kibaku Area Development Association, an organization representing the entire Chibok community, Dr. Allen Mannaseh, has described as a scam the purported Thursday’s meeting between the Federal Government representatives and parents of the abducted schoolgirls.
Dr. Mannaseh, who was reacting to a press statement issued by Olawale Rasheed, the Special Adviser to the Minister of State Power, Barr. Mohammed Wakil, that a closed door meeting was held with some relations and parents of the
schoolgirls, disassociated the Chibok parents from that arrangement, noting that the said meeting was merely a Peoples Democratic Party’s affairs.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has laid the foundation for the rebuilding of the Government Secondary School Chibok, which was destroyed by the Boko Haram sect.
The school was destroyed when the terrorist sect abducted over 200 girls in April last year.
Over 3,000 students in Chibok have been unable to return to school since the deadly attack by Boko Haram in the community.
The minister, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan at the occasion, revealed that the school would also be remodeled.

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Friday dissolved a 20-year-old marriage between Olayiwola Ajayi and his wife, Isiwa, over battery by wife.
The President of the court, Mr Rasak Adeyeri, held that both parties were no longer husband and wife and they were free to go their separate ways.
Ajayi, 72, a retired civil servant, had alleged that his wife always threatened his life through beating, among other things.

Terrorists, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect, currently being dislodged from a number of their earlier seized towns by the multinational joint task forces, have regrouped in Gwoza, Borno State where they prepare to confront the troops.
The sect had asked women and children to leave owing to their plan to engage the military in a gun battle, one of the fleeing woman said in an interview with BBC Hausa Wednesday.
“On the day they entered, they told women and children to exit the town because they wanted to confront the military, the women and children went out of the town. Somebody carried us into the bush, but the vigilante stopped us, asking us where we were coming from. We explained to them that we were from Gwoza and narrated to them what happened.

Babangida said this while fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja.

Gov. Aliyu Babangida of Niger said on Thursday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would win the general elections in spite of increased propaganda from opposition parties.

According to him, the PDP has no problem winning the elections, both at the gubernatorial and presidential level.

             Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has insisted that soldiers will be deployed to polling centers to ensure hitch-free elections.
                   He said what the people desire is a safe environment to exercise their rights and this could only be achieved with deployments of soldiers.
                    Clark, who spoke in Abuja on Friday when leadership of Jonathan Sambo Support Group in Gombe South/Central Senatorial District of Gombe State paid him a courtesy visit, said “Our people want safety when they go out to vote and the soldiers would be deployed to guarantee that.”

Youths under the umbrella of Buhari/Osinbajo Movement will this Saturday converge on Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, for what is tagged “One- million Match” for the political aspiration of General Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

A statement issued by the leadership of the group stated that the event is being put together to further boost the clamour for change in the polity, saying; “Southwest youths, especially people in Lagos, see the need to join forces with other well meaning Nigerians to advocate change in the polity.

A mob of several thousand people broke into a high-security prison in India, dragged out a rape suspect and killed him, officials said on Friday, adding that police had to impose a curfew to restore order.
Rape has been a particularly emotive crime in India since 2012, when a student was raped and tortured on a bus in New Delhi and later died. The government has banned a documentary about that attack, re-igniting debate about gender inequality.
