26 Died, 28 Injured As Suicide Bomber Attacks Mosque In Maiduguri

 Three bombings in northeast Nigeria's largest city of Maiduguri killed 58 people on March 7, 2015 and wounded 139 others, the area police chief said. Niger and Chad on March 8, 2015 launched major ground and air strikes in northeast Nigeria against Boko Haram, after the militants formally pledged allegiance to the Islamic state group in Syria and Iraq.

                   While the National Assembly appears to be divided over the removal or retention of the subsidy regime, which is believed to be fraught with corruption, different parties are now quoting figures of how much has gone down since President Goodluck Jonathan’s government.

Court Stops NERC From Increasing Electricity Tariff

                    A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday restrained the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), from implementing the new electricity tariff which was to take effect from June 1.

                    The Governing Council of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, has terminated the appointments of three principal officers of the state institution including the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashir Okesina with immediate effect.
The termination of their appointments followed the recommendations of a visitation panel set up by the Visitor to the university, Governor Rauf Aregbesola. The panel looked into the allegation of financial mismanagement in the institution.

ASUU Aondemns UNIOSUN Council For Recommending VC’s Sacking

            The Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Osun State University has condemned the  Governing Council of the institution for recommending the termination of appointment of its suspended Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bashir Okesina.
Although the alleged recommendation of the council,  headed  by Prof. Gabriel Olawoyin (SAN), has not been made public, the ASUU, in a statement by its Chairman, Dr. Oluseye Abiona, and other members of the executive, kicked against the recommendation describing it as prejudicial.

Court Declines To Stop Wike’s Swearing-in

                   A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, refused an ex-parte application praying it to stop the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiru, from swearing in the Rivers State governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, on May 29.
Trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, who turned down the application, said granting such would amount to “adding insult upon the injury” of the people of Rivers State, who currently “have no judiciary.”

                   Outgoing Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has advised incoming governors to ensure that there was no crack in the Governors’ Forum, saying that it was the division in their midst that resulted in the alleged looting of public funds at the centre.

Amaechi Reveals When Money Started Missing In Federation Account

                  Governor, Mr Chibuike Amaechi of  Rivers state on Wednesday urged incoming governors not to allow anybody to divide the Nigeria Governors Forum.
Amaechi made the call at a church service to mark his 50th birthday at Corpus Christi Cathedral, Port Harcourt.

FG Releases N5billion To Purchase Stoves For Rural Women

                    The Federal government has released N5billion for the purchase of stoves for rural women across the country, under the National Clean Cooking Scheme, a programme launched by FG to discourage the use of Firewood for cooking.
Announcing the release of the funds, Minister of Environment, Laurientia Mallam, speaking during an inspection visit to the Velodrome at the National Stadium, Abuja, where some of the 750,000 stoves were being assembled, said the stoves will be distributed through the various Ministries of Environment.
