                       Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, said on Saturday in Kaduna that for electing a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, the people of the state had chosen a competent leader.
Sanusi led the Kano Emirate Council to congratulate el-Rufai, who he described as “competent and capable” on his victory at the April 11 governorship election in the state.

El-Rufai defeated incumbent governor Mulkhtar Yero at the poll.

The charges leveled against him include the possession of crystal methamphetamine (31.47g) and cocaine (889.63g) with the intention to sell. The police got tips that Nigerian men living on the 9th floor of Building 17 of the HR Residence have been involved in the sale of hard drugs.

                        Hitmen shot and seriously wounded on Friday the controversial former police chief of Ciudad Juarez, whose tenure was marked by a sharp drop in murders in Mexico’s ex-homicide capital.
Lieutenant colonel Julian Leyzaola Perez was hit at around noon after his wife and daughter left his car to go into a shop near a border crossing into Texas, authorities said.

30 Killed In Iraq Jail Break



                       Up to 30 people were killed when the Iraqi security forces thwarted a jail-break of more than 150 detainees held for terrorism charges in Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala, a provincial security source said on Saturday.
The attempt started when a group of detainees took the gun of a guard during his tour late on Friday night in the jail of the police headquarters in the city of Khalis, just west of the provincial capital city of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

OMG!!!! Man Stabs Girlfriend To Death In Bayelsa, Attempts Suicide

Tragedy struck yesterday at the Agudama suburb of Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital when a man in his late thirties stabbed his girlfriend to death and attempted to kill himself by drinking poisonous substance suspected to be sniper.

The deceased identified as Rita Abalorun, aged 35, was reportedly stabbed with a knife by her boy friend simply known as James.



                    The tragic incident, Saturday Vanguard learnt, occurred at about 11.20 am at the lovers’ residence at the sleepy Agudama settlement in the outskirts of Yenagoa.
Though the motive of the attack could not be immediately ascertained as the suspect (James), was found unconscious in a nearby bush and is yet to give his statement to the police.

He was said to have dealt his girlfriend a deadly stab following a bitter quarrel over his alleged indecent affairs with the deceased sister.

Yemenis Ordered To Leave Saada Province



                        The Arab coalition carried out air strikes on Friday in Yemen’s Saada, a bastion of Houthi rebels, and warned all civilians to leave the restive province after declaring the entire territory a “military target.”
Saudi state television channel Al Ekhbariya said on Friday that the entire region would become a military target, as General Ahmed al-Asiri, the military spokesman for the coalition, said leaflets had been dropped in the Old Saada district urging residents to leave by 19:00 local time (16:00 GMT) on Friday.

Supreme Court Sets Aside Appeal Court’s Verdict On Okoye Brothers

 


                           The Supreme Court on Friday set aside the Court of Appeal decision which overruled an interlocutory application by five brothers.
The Okoye brothers, Ebele, Ejike, Chizoba, Chika and Onyeka, were on May 24, 2006, arraigned by the police before an Awka Magistrates’ Court on a seven-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

The charges among others bordered on conspiracy to commit felony and serious assault on police officers and malicious damages to property.

Blood Bath Looms At Onitsha Market Over Election Delay



                            Blood bath is now looming at the Bridgehead market, Onitsha, Anambra state, as Board of Trustees, BoT of the market under the aegis of Onitsha Bridgehead Market Traders Association, OBMTA condemned the delay by the state government to conduct an election that will produce executive members of the association, as scheduled.
A three-man peace committee had after meeting with the trustees of the market and officials of the state Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry, scheduled the election for March 15, 2015 but the exercise could not hold.

Police Invite More INEC Workers--Card Reader Theft



                No fewer than six more permanent staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abia State were said to have been invited for interrogation by detectives at the Zone 9 Police Headquarters over an alleged attempt to steal card readers from the Umuahia office of the commission.
This is coming 48 hours after two Information Communication Technology employees of INEC, Herbert Ejimofor and Nnamdi Nwabuko, were quizzed by the police for allegedly attempting to smuggle seven card readers from INEC strong-room.

                      Husband and wife actors, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are selling their New Orleans mansion they bought after Hurricane Katrina. They bought the mansion a year later for $3.5 million and said they would remain embedded in the community.
Brad and Angelina were true to their words and spent a substantially amount of time in the city with their family.

But now they’re moving on, selling the 5 bedroom, 3.2 bathroom home in the French Quarter.

2 Killed, Property Destroyed In Delta Intra-Communal Crisis



                     NO fewer than two persons have been killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed at Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, following an intra-communal crisis that erupted in the area. It was gathered that the crisis was triggered by the alleged killing of a member of the community’s vigilance team from Egbo quarters, while trying to mediate a fracas between three suspected cultists from Uruabe quarters.
Sources said the deceased, who was renowned for his anti-cultism activities in the community, was allegedly clubbed to death after he was overpowered by his assailants who also inflicted gunshot and machete injuries on him. A source, who sought anonymity, said tension heightened when angry youths from Egbo quarters went on rampage, killing the father of one of the suspected cultists and burning buildings belonging to their families.

EFCC Arraigns FCT Minister Ex-Aide For N60m Land Fraud



                         The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arraigned Muhammed Gital who is a former Chief of Staff to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on land fraud related offences.
The EFCC said in a statement by its Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, that  Gital was arraigned alongside, Deputy Director, Mass Housing at the Federal Capital Development Authority, Sani Abba.

C Africa To Sue French Soldiers Accused Of Abusing Children

                   The Central African Republic will take legal action against the French soldiers accused of raping children in exchange for food at a refugee camp, the country's justice minister said Wednesday.
"Legal action will be pursued... These are still very serious acts," said Justice Minister Aristide Sokambi, insisting his nation was not targeting France but individual soldiers.

Several children -- the youngest just nine -- allege that 14 soldiers dispatched to the impoverished nation as part of a peacekeeping force sexually abused some of them in exchange for food between December 2013 and June 2014.

                    A 33-year-old trailer driver, who reportedly stabbed his friend to death on Monday night at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State, has confessed that his action was a mistake he regretted.It was learned that the suspect, identified as Tunde Azeez, allegedly stabbed Lukmon Ayedun with a broken bottle at 8:42pm during a brawl.

                        The Lagos State police command on Wednesday arraigned a 19-year-old man, Tunde Ahmed for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.
NAN reports that the accused was arraigned at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on a two-count charge of child defilement and indecent treatment of a child.

The 19-year-old accused, who resides at Abule Ado area of Lagos State, allegedly defiled his neighbour daughter after he lured her into his room.

                      A yet to be identified man and an indigene of Ido Ekiti has been killed in a Wednesday kidnap operation of a senior Nurse working with the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, Mrs Margaret Aladeneka.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Majekodunmi Ayodele, who revealed this on Thursday to journalists also raised the alarm over Wednesday invasion by some youth who accused the hospital of not giving preference to indigenes in employment exercise.

FG Earmarks N145.2bn For Oil Subsidy – Okonjo-Iweala

                      Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Finance, said that N145.2 billion had been set aside for payment of subsidy on petroleum products in the 2015 budget.
Okonjo-Iweala said this on Tuesday in Abuja while addressing newsmen on the changes made in the 2015 budget recently passed by the National Assembly.

She said that N100 billion was set aside for subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) while N45.2 billion for kerosene.

                     Floyd Mayweather has said he is willing to grant Manny Pacquiao a rematch following the Filipino boxer’s disclosure that a shoulder injury hampered his performance in last weekend’s world title showdown, ESPN reported Tuesday.
ESPN reported that Mayweather had told journalist Stephen A. Smith in a text message that he was ready to don gloves once again after Pacquiao recovers from surgery to repair a rotator cuff.

                    The United States Consul-General, Jeffrey Hawkins, has said the news media should enjoy the needed freedom if democracy is to thrive in Nigeria.
He said this on Tuesday during his opening remarks to mark this year’s World Press Freedom Day.

Female Banker Who Defrauded Late Emir Of Kano N17m Photo Surfaced Online (See)

                    A female banker identified as Amina Magaji pictured above and 2 of her male accomplices, Haruna Bulama Namadi and Muhammed Abdullahi who is currently at large, were yesterday arraigned before Justice Faruk Lawan of the Kano State High Court Kano, over allegation of defrauding the Late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, of over N17 million using fake cheques.
According to investigations by EFCC, Amina Magaji who was the account officer to the late Emir and managed all his accounts, domiciled one of the accounts in an old generation banks in 2011.

Leaders of armed groups in the Central African Republic agreed Tuesday to release thousands of child soldiers and to end underage recruitment, UNICEF said. The United Nations children’s agency described the news as a “major step forward” in the country, where it estimates 6,000 to 10,000 children to be held by various armed factions.

10 Injured In Guinea’s Opposition Protests



                   Ten people were injured, four of them through gun shots fired by security forces, during protests organized Monday by Guinea’s opposition, opposition spokesman Aboubacar Sylla said in a statement.
However, Government Spokesman Albert Damantang Camara said only two civilians had been injured.

Sylla said the opposition’s call for protests was largely successful as economic and social activities in Conakry as well as in other interior towns of the country were paralysed.
