The Lagos State police command on Wednesday arraigned a 19-year-old man, Tunde Ahmed for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.
NAN reports that the accused was arraigned at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on a two-count charge of child defilement and indecent treatment of a child.
The 19-year-old accused, who resides at Abule Ado area of Lagos State, allegedly defiled his neighbour daughter after he lured her into his room.
The police prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo, informed the court that Ahmed committed the offences on April 7, 2015 at his residence.
The prosecutor further told the court that the accused person inserted one of his fingers into the private part of the teenager.
“Ahmed also forcefully had carnal knowledge of the child without her consent,” Ojaokomo said.
The prosecutor informed the court that the offences were contrary to Sections 135 and137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Ahmed, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned hearing on the case to May 14, 2015.
Meanwhile, Section 135 posits seven years imprisonment for anybody that unlawfully and indecently deals with a child. It states that such person is guilty of a felony.
Section 137 on the hand stipulates that anybody that had sexual intercourse with a teenager is guilty of felony, and such is liable to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, rape cases which have become so rampant are not taken likely in a court of jurisdiction. less than a week ago ten alleged perpetrators of notorious case of rape and torture of three females widely known as Ejigbo pepper sodomy, were remanded in prison custody.
