                THE relative peace that reigns at Iwo road interchange, Ibadan, was ruptured yesterday as some Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, caused the death of a motorcyclist who fell under a Lagos bound articulated vehicle which crushed his head instantly.
The VIO officials, whose manner of operations had been roundly condemned by motorists in the state, were said to be in hot pursuit of a commercial cab for alleged breach of traffic rules.

World's Oldest Man Dies In Japan Aged 112 (Photo)

               The world's oldest man, Sakari Momoi, has died in Japan at the ripe old age of 112.Momoi, born months before the Wright brothers made their first successful flight, passed away late on Sunday, said the official at Saitama City, north of Tokyo, where he had lived for many years.
The supercentenarian, recognised as the world's oldest male at the age of 111 last year, died of kidney failure in a care home in Tokyo.May his soul rest in peace.

Buhari Approves N713.7b For States To Pay Workers

             CASH-STRAPPED states got a breather yesterday. President Muhammadu Buhari approved the release of N713.7billion  intervention funds for them to pay workers’ salaries.
The bailout is part of a three-pronged relief package that will end the workers’ plight.
In the package are N413.7billion   special intervention funds and the balance of about N250billion to N300billion, which is a soft loan to states.

20 Persons, 25 Cows Die In Kogi Road Accident

              No fewer than 20 persons were killed on Monday in an early morning crash around Irepeni, along Abuja-Lokoja-Okene highway. About 25 cows were also killed in the incident.

51 Boko Haram Blast Victims Buried in Jos

EFCC Summons 120 Ogun Teachers Over N200m Loan

                   One hundred and twenty teachers in public secondary schools in Ogun State have been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to answer questions on a N200m loan they allegedly took from one of the old generation banks (name withheld) since 2011. The loan has yet to be repaid.
They will be quizzed today (Monday) at the anti-graft agency’s Lagos office.
The teachers, our correspondent learnt, were invited through the state’s Teaching Service Commission.

              The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday terminated the appointment of Stephen Keshi as Head Coach of the Senior National Football Team, Super Eagles.
According to a statement by the body’s Executive Committee, it said the decision was made, “having thoroughly reviewed the reports/findings of the NFF Disciplinary Committee and NFF Technical and Development Committee, as well as having reviewed the actions and inactions of Mr. Stephen Keshi, in the performance of his duties as Super Eagles’ Head Coach, which we found to lack the required commitment to achieve the Federation’s objectives as set out in the Coach’s employment contract.”

Military Take Over Security In Anambra Prison

                Following the relocation of Boko Haram detainees to the Ekwulobia Prisons in Anambra State, the military have taken over the security of the facility.
SUNDAY PUNCH investigations showed that security operations in the Federal Government facility are no longer the exclusive preserve of the officials of the Nigeria Prison Service.
The development, sources told our correspondent, is not unconnected with the calibre of the detainees being held behind the walls of the facility.

                 Scores of people were killed on Friday night at Zabarmari village, 10 kilometres from Maiduguri, Borno State, by six female suicide bombers who blew themselves up amid panicked villagers fleeing an attack by   Boko Haram terrorists, the army and witnesses said yesterday.
The carnage caps a week in which the sect killed about  200 people in separate attacks in the state, the bloodiest being Wednesday night’s attacks on residents of Kukawa as they gathered in mosques for Ramadan prayers.

                The Islamic State (IS) group on Saturday released a video showing 25 Syrian government soldiers being executed by teenagers in the ancient amphitheatre in the city of Palmyra.
The video documented an execution that reportedly happened shortly after the jihadist group captured the city on May 21.
It shows the soldiers in green and brown military uniforms being shot dead on the amphitheatre's stage in front of an enormous version of the group's black and white flag.
