According to a report published by The Premium Times, quoting police officials and other witnesses, the female suicide bomber ferrying the explosive died in the explosion.Though the report did not mention the number of innocent lives that were lost in the incident, the spokesperson for the Kano Police Command, Magaji Majiya, said the bomber detonated the explosive around 9:30p.m after she was prevented from accessing the Umar Bin Khatab mosque along Zaria Road.
A witness also stated that the tragic incident happened just as Muslim worshippers were dispersing after observing the late night (Tarawih) prayer.
It was gathered from a source that most of the casualties of the bomb blast were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Hospital.Though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but security agencies believe the bombing was carried out by the Boko Haram sect.
It would be recalled that a similar attack on a restaurant and a mosque in Jos had left no fewer than 44 persons dead and 48 others injured.
Another bomb attack inside a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church in Potiskum, Yobe state had left no fewer than six people dead on Sunday night."
