Amosun Shuts Olabisi Onabanjo University

.To forestall breakdown of law and order, Ogun State Government has directed the Governing Council of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, to close down the university immediately.
According to a statement signed by Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary to State Government, the decision to shut the university was taken in the overall interest of peace and order

Unknown gunmen stormed a checkpoint at Tilden Fulani in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Thursday, August 21, killing three policemen.

Sources, including Toro council area officials said, the attack took place between 10.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m.
According to Nigerian Tribune report, the slain policemen were on a patrol duty with two other colleagues who were lucky to not be killed as they had left the scene and gone into town to eat when the assailants attacked.
When the two officers returned, they found their colleagues had been attacked and killed.
An official of Toro council who pleaded anonymity said the gunmen took away the rifle of one of the slain policemen, adding that their remains have deposited in a hospital.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi State police command, DSP Haruna Mohammed said: “I am yet to get details of the attack, but as soon as I do, I will let you know, please.”
It would be recalled that about a week ago, three people were reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be assassins who wreaked havoc in Umuawulu Community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A female soldier in the Nigerian army yesterday beat a conductor to coma over change at Iyana Isashi, along Lagos- Badagry expressway in Lagos State.

LeadershipNg reports that the soldier, who was in mufti, had boarded the mini- bus at Mile 2 and was going to Agbara area of Ogun State before the incident occurred. An argument which degenerated into a fight began when the soldier who allegedly gave the conductor N500 demanded for her change and the conductor said he had given her the money.

There was tragedy at Ungwar Sarkin Mata, Kagom District in Jema’a Local Government Area, LGA, of Kaduna State after a boat conveying a family of eight on a raging, capsized yesterday, killing seven family members, authorities said.

A car accident occurred this morning in Lagos at VGC roundabout . This created a lot of commotion and attracted a couple of onlookers to the scene of the accident, but at the time this report was put together no casualties was confirmed though the accident was allegedly caused by a Danfo running on one-way.

I’ll love to appeal to Nigerian entertainers to stop the habit of going about cap in hand begging for votes each time they are nominated for awards. If your materials are good enough and the award process is transparent, I see no reason why you should go about embarrassingly soliciting for votes like a politician. No award should be given based on public opinion. There should be a “competent” panel of judges selected to review the nominated materials and advise the organisers who the winners should be. It calls to question the motives of award organisers. Same goes for the numerous music talent shows in Nigeria today.

The PDP is Ondo state today August 22nd confirmed that the governor has now joined their party, decamping from the Labour Party.
