“No new case of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria” – Minister

Reports that five new cases of the deadly Ebola Virus have been detected in Lagos have been debunked by Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Nigeria’s health minister.
In a statement released yesterday by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dan Nwomeh, the minster urged the media to disregard all rumours of new cases of the virus. It read, “The Honourable Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu wishes to reiterate that at present, Nigeria has only two confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease.”
Chukwu said the clarification became necessary following media reports of five new cases in Lagos State, adding that the report should be disregarded. He said: “However, as at 7 pm today, there is no other confirmed Ebola Virus Disease case in Nigeria outside the two that are currently under treatment at the isolation ward in Lagos.”
