Oil Marketers Pledge To End Queues Nationwide

 

                        Oil marketers on Friday said they have dispatched 700 trucks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to Abuja as part of efforts to end fuel queues at filling stations nationwide.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting they held in Abuja with the Federal Government and other stakeholders in oil and gas sector.

President Buhari To Unveil National Youth Empowerment Program

                        President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said his administration would soon unveil a comprehensive national youth empowerment program to address youth employment, insecurity and other social vices.

Buhari disclosed this at the swearing-in of 2015 Batch “A” (Stream II) National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Lagos.

Police Free Imo Female NAN Reporter, Kidnappers Held

             The Imo State Police Command on Friday confirmed the release of the state correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, Miss Chidi Opara, who was abducted at her Urata, Owerri residence on Tuesday night.
Briefing newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Austin Evbakavbokun, said no ransom was paid for the release of the journalist, adding that the police was intensifying effort to recover her Toyota Lexus Jeep and track down the abductors.

An explosion that occured today at a petrol station in Accra, Ghana, has left at least 90 people dead and about a dozen people injured.

According to Al Jazeera, most of the victims had sought shelter at the station due to heavy rain.

Sheriff Surrenders To EFCC Over Alleged N300bn Fraud

                           Barely a week after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, threatened to declare him wanted over alleged laundering of over N300 billion during his tenure, the former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, last night voluntarily surrendered to the agency for interrogation.
The former governor walked into the hands of his interrogators at the commission’s head office in Abuja at 6pm and was immediately taken in.

Fuel Tanker Fire Wreaks Havoc In Lagos

                  No fewer than 14 people were injured, while property worth millions of naira were destroyed, yesterday, in Lagos as a tanker laden with 33,000 litres of petrol fell off Iyana-Ipaja bridge, resulting in an explosion which triggered a fire that raged for about 10 hours.
Affected property include a popular recording company, Remi Odus; electrical cables, three buildings, 44 shops, six tricycles and 22 vehicles, among others.

                 Sepp Blatter is the focus of an FBI corruption investigation in the United States, American media reported Tuesday, shortly after his shock resignation as president of FIFA.

                     A Canadian court has ordered tobacco firms to pay $12.4bn to smokers in Quebec who claimed they were never warned about health risks linked to smoking.
Superior Court Justice Brian Riordan said in his decision released late on Monday that by choosing not to inform health authorities or the public directly of what they knew, the companies chose profits over the health of their customers.

                    A gang of armed robbers killed a Catholic Priest, identified as Reverend Father Onyeka, and his younger brother, Obi Onyeka, while travelling on the Owo-Oba-Akoko Road, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Wole Ogodo, who disclosed this to The PUNCH on Monday, said the robbers were operating on the road when the victims ran into them

CBN Releases 2013 Controversial Report

                            The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) weekend released the 2013 annual report that led to suspension of former governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria had raised issues with the accounts, saying it needed some detailed explanation as required in the International Financial Reporting Standards.
It was on the basis of issues raised by the Council that the former CBN Governor was suspended. However, the CBN said that it has formally released its audited financial statements for 2013 and 2014 and has fully adopted the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for the financial statements.

CBN’s Operating Surplus Falls By N174BN

                    The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, operating surplus (net income) fell sharply by N174 billion to N33.8 billion in 2014.
This represented 81 percent decline when compared with the N213.5 billion recorded in 2013. In the same vein, the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company Plc, a subsidiary of the apex bank suffered a loss of N1.54 billion in 2014.

Four Injured As Boko Haram Bomber Hits Maiduguri Market

                     An Improvised Explosive Device, believed to be planted by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, on Sunday exploded at a popular market, Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, living four persons critically injured, a member of the youth vigilance group in the town, Abba Modu, told our correspondent on the telephone.
In the last 48 hours, the Borno State capital has come under the attack of the terrorists on no fewer than three occasions.

                  Thirteen persons lost their lives while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash at Busuri village on the Bulkachuwa-Dambam road in Bauchi State on Friday.
That the crash occurred when a Toyota Hiace bus had a head on collision with an Iveco truck at about 8.45pm.
