The House of Representatives on Thursday granted approval to President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint 15 special advisers.
The House gave the approval after it received a letter from the President requesting it to enable him appoint the advisers to help him discharge his functions.

Buhari had written a similar letter to the Senate for approval on Tuesday.

The motion seeking the House’ approval was moved by House Majority Leader, Mulikat Akande-Adeola, at a session presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha.

She noted that the President’s request and the subsequent approval granted by the House complied with the provisions of Sections 151(1) and 151(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The motion was passed in a unanimous voice vote.

Meanwhile, the House on Thursday directed the Nigerian Customs Service to go after any company importing rice into the country but evaded duty payment to the Federal Government.

It instructed the agency to seal off the warehouses of such firms until “the very last kobo is recovered to government coffers in line with the Customs Act.”

The House gave the directive as it considered the report of an investigation into the “evasion of payment of duty on imported rice.”

The House also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to support the NCS in ensuring that the outstanding duties were recovered for government.

“Henceforth, the NCS should insist only on variable bank guarantees from reputable banks and stop forthwith the acceptance of any corporate guarantee from companies,” the House added.

Members also passed N299.5 billion as the 2015 budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission on Thursday.
