Babatunde Fashola Urges Nigerians--Don’t Use Religion To Cause Problems

Babatunde Fashola

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has called on Christians and Muslims in the country to avoid using the instrument of religion to cause disharmony among themselves.
The call was contained in an address presented at the 53rd Annual Synod of the Methodist Diocese of Lagos on Friday.
The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Christian Religious Matters, Rev. Adefunmilayo Akitoye—Buraimo, said the support of the religious community is important to the implementation of government policies.

He also stressed the need for Christians and Muslims to shun any action that may cause unnecessary disturbance of peace during the forthcoming general elections.
“We as a government see our religious communities as partners in governance because they are saddled with the responsibility of admonishing the congregation to be law abiding and obey laws of God as contained in the holy writ”, he said.
The governor stated that the synod was important because of the fact that it precedes the country’s general election.
“Our country will be better if we put what we read in our holy books to practice”, Fashola said.
