Les Than 1000 Applicants Jostle For 135 Teaching Jobs In Lagos

No fewer than 1,000 applicants have applied for employment in the State Universal Basic Education Board Federal Teachers Scheme in Lagos.
The Head, Public Relations of SUBEB, Mr Seyi Akitoye, on Tuesday said that the board were still receiving more applications even after the November 24 deadline.
Akitoye said only 500 applicants would be shortlisted in Lagos out of which 135 teachers would be recruited by the Universal Basic Education Council in Abuja.

Saraki Said Anti-Graft Agencies Looting Recovered Funds, Properties

 

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has alleged that proceeds of corruption recovered by the Federal Government are being looted by anti-corruption agencies.He said it was the reason some countries lacked confidence in Nigeria, concerning the management of assets recovered from looters.

Boko Haram Kills 55 In Borno Villages

                       Boko Haram fighters have killed at least 55 people in Bale and Kayamla villages, two communities near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Residents who spoke with AFP said the insurgents also burnt several homes after looting them before proceeding to the outskirts of Maiduguri, where they were crushed by troops.

“They killed 30 people in Kayamla and another 25 in Bale,” a vigilante official, Abacha Zinnari, said.

100 Bodies ‘Mass Grave’ In Town Taken From Boko Haram

 

                 Around 100 bodies were found Friday in a mass grave on the outskirts of the town of Damasak after it was liberated from Boko Haram Islamists, a Chadian army spokesman told AFP.
Soldiers discovered the bodies — some decapitated — under a bridge just outside the town, which was retaken from Boko Haram on March 9 by troops from Chad and Niger.
“There are about 100 bodies spread around under the bridge just outside the town,” said Colonel Azem Bermandoa Agouna, adding that he had visited the scene himself close to the border with Niger.

Insurgents Will Not Take Control Of Any Town Again – Jonathan

 

              President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday vowed his administration will resist any attempt by the Boko Haram terrorist group to take control of any town or village within the country.
The President made this remark when the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took its campaign trail to Damatuiru the Yobe state capital north east Nigeria.
“As I speak, I am so happy to announced that Yobe has been freed of Boko Haram as all terrorists towns earlier under the control of the sect members have been recaptured by our able troops and we will henceforth resist any attempt by the sect members or any group to take control of any territory” the president said.

Nigeria military says it has ousted Boko Haram from town of Bama

 

            Nigeria's military says it has retaken the north-eastern town of Bama from the Islamist military group Boko Haram.

A large number of militants were killed and a "mopping up" operation is continuing in the second largest town in Borno state, it said.
Boko Haram was reportedly also ousted from Goniri, its last base in neighbouring Yobe state.

Soldiers Detonate Bombs Found In IDP Camps In Maiduguri

 

               Soldiers on Saturday detonated two homemade bombs found in a camp housing people displaced by Boko Haram violence in Maiduguri.
Two men suspected of planting the explosives were arrested and an investigation is ongoing, they said.
The bombs were found in the city’s Yerwa primary school, prompting panic until soldiers destroyed the bombs from a distance.

SA Raises Concern Over Mercenaries In War Against Boko Haram

            The South African government has expressed concerns over the use of South Africans as mercenaries in Nigeria in the war against the Boko Haram terrorist group.
Although, the Nigerian government through the coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, said the foreigners were being used as training partners, South Africa says its men may be involved in fighting.
Nigeria recently acquired helicopter gunships and tanks from South Africa and former Soviet Union countries and needs technical assistance to handle the facility.

            Two blasts, Saturday evening, went off at one of the camps accommodating thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri metropolis. The explosions happened at about 6:15pm
Vanguard quoted unconfirmed sources to have said that the incident took place at Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School. Others said that the incident occurred at Arabic Teacher’s College, Maiduguri. The two schools share a fence, but no educational activities have been happening in either schools in recent times, as they have become camps accommodating some IDPs in Borno.

Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) used by terrorists were found in the factory.

            Maj.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, has said that in spite of challenges, terrorism will not defeat the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Mr. Adeosun, who spoke when he received a team of newsmen on tour of communities recently recaptured from the Boko Haram insurgents in his office in Maiduguri, vowed that the military will defeat the insurgents.

           At least 58 people were today killed in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, following three bomb blasts, including one by a female suicide attacker.

The attack believed to have been orchestrated by Islamist sect Boko Haram is the latest in a series of renewed attacks that have hit the country’s northeast in recent times.

Elderly Men Studying The Holy Quran Killed By Boko Haram

             Members of the terrorist group Boko Haram have been gathering in the northeast town of Gwoza, now said to be the group’s headquarters. They killed residents who were unable to flee, a senator and witnesses told reporters on Thursday.
According to a female resident who fled Gwoza and spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, the insurgents rounded up elderly men who were studying the Holy Quran outside the home of a local cleric and later killed them in front of their wives.
