NNPC Must Use Alternative Depots Outside Lagos – NUPENG

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to make utilize other petroleum products depots in other states to ease the perennial traffic gridlock on the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, Lagos.
NUPENG chairman, South-West, Tokunbo Korodo, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.

Korodo said effective distribution of petroleum products through other depots outside Lagos would eliminate the gridlock in Apapa. He pointed out that only three depots, out over 18 in Apapa, currently have petroleum products; they are Capital Oil and Gas, Ibeto Oil and Gas and Integrated Oil and Gas Tank Farms.
Korodo said, “Now that the major oil marketers are not loading products due to unpaid subsidy, the NNPC should quickly use other depots to decongest Apapa.
“If all the tankers in the country come down to Apapa for supply, it would degenerate to scarcity of petroleum products.
“Most of our truck drivers spend more than four days before they load, which is additional expenses on tank drivers.
“The government should resolve the problem of major oil marketers before it results in (more) petrol scarcity.
