Dimitri Harrell, 21, is in police custody after confessing to fatally shooting his girlfriend, Samirria White, 19.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune,
White was killed following an argument she had with Harrell Easter
morning in a bedroom where their 3-month-old daughter was sleeping. The
teen’s body was discovered on the floor of the couple’s Minneapolis
apartment.
Harrell
told police that he was holding the infant when his handgun discharged
striking White once in the head. Several of the teen’s siblings were
gathered at the apartment when officers arrived close to 4 a.m. that
morning. White was declared dead at the scene.
White’s
brother told police he heard his sister scream, “Don’t point that gun
at me!” and that he heard Harrell yell back at her; however, it’s
unclear what Harrell’s response was. White’s brother said that he then
heard a gunshot. He ran into the bedroom and discovered White’s body.
Harrell
attempted to explain that he didn’t mean to shoot White and that the
gun discharged by accident. According to relatives, the arguing began
after Harrell came home after 2 a.m. White reportedly informed Harrell
that she wished to end their relationship.
“Love doesn’t love you like this,” White’s cousin KaRynn Cummings said at a candlelight vigil held for the deceased. “Love don’t hurt. Love feels good.”
White
is remembered by relatives as a friendly young woman who had
aspirations of becoming a nurse. Harrell has been charged with
second-degree murder.
