Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State has appealed to residents of the state to accept the outcome of the gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections whichever way it turns.
Yero is contesting to retain his seat under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against Mallan Nasir El Rufai of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Also, 32 seats of Kaduna State House of Assembly, KDHA, are up for grabs at today’s polls.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that a young man said to be in his early twenties, was beaten into a state of coma, after attempting to snatch a ballot box at a polling unit at Hayin Danmani, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis.
Yero, who spoke to newsmen after doing his accreditation at Kaura polling unit 013, in Zaria around 11 a.m. said he would abide by the outcome of the result and enjoined all residents of the state to do same.
He said: “I am happy with the organisation of the election, and I am very hopeful to win. But if it turns out the other way, I am going to abide by the result. It is Allah that gives power to whosoever he wants. I want to call on all residents of the state to please accept the results that shall be announced by INEC. We must do everything to keep the peace in Kaduna State. All complaints should be lawfully followed”, he said.
At Hayin Danmani, an unplanned and densely populated community mainly occupied by Hausa, a man said to be in his early twenties was rescued by the police after being beaten to a state of unconsciousness. He met his fate when a mob descended on him, after a failed attempt to snatch a ballot box full of ballot papers.
He was said to have been overpowered despite the knives and axe he used to frighten away voters and officials of INEC and local vigilante.
“The youths pursued him, until he was too tired to run. They came on him and beat him with sticks and clubs. By the time the police arrived, he was unconscious and lying in his pool of blood. I am sure he will die in the hospital”, said Kasimu Haruna.”
