2 traders whose names were given as Alhaji Abba, 26, and Mogaji Mohammed, 25, were on Wednesday, remanded in prisons custody by an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The duo whose addresses are unknown are standing trial for charges bordering on conspiracy, assault and receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Adebayo Oladele, had earlier told the court that the traders committed the offences at about 6.00 p.m. on September 19, 2014, at Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused received 125 litres of diesel from an accomplice still at large. He said the defendants also assaulted a police inspector, Gabriel Ejeh attached to the Bar Beach Police Station while resisting arrest after committing the said crime.
Oladele, who further informed that court that the officer sustained serious injuries on the right hand, said the offences were contrary to sections 172, 326 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody following their guilty plea to the above charges, and fixed September 30 for facts and sentence.
The accused riskS 14 years imprisonment if convicted.
Meanwhile, a housewife, Uzoima Patrick, and her husband, Ezechima, were September 17, 2014, arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for raping their house help.
