The Federal
Government yesterday said members of Boko Haram who had surrendered to military
authorities would be rehabilitated before being reintegrated into the society.
Coordinator of the National Information Centre (NIC) and Director General of
the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, said this at a briefing
yesterday in Abuja.
He explained
that the rehabilitation strategy, as contained in the counter-terrorism
document launched by the government, would be strictly followed in handling the
surrendered insurgents.
“Those
terrorists, who surrendered their arms and embrace peace will undergo the
process of de-radicalisation and rehabilitation, so that they will be admitted
into society and given the opportunity to continue contributing their own quota
to the development of this country.
“But for
those who insist on carrying arms against their country, against their fellow
citizens, they will have themselves to blame," Omeri said.
