A former governorship aspirant under the platform of the people’s Democratic Party in Adamawa State,Dr Umar Ardo has yesterday called the National Chairman of the party Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu and other members of the National Working Committee to resign honourably for what he called disastrous performance of the party.
Ardo, who was a Special Adviser to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Local Government Affairs ,said the agitation was against the backdrop of the disastrous performance of the PDP in the 2015 general elections both at the national and state levels.
Adding,,” it is my view that the PDP national leaderships must take full responsibility and consequently resign their offices forthwith, if the party is to reposition itself and recapture power in the nearest future. ” he said
“Although the Buhari candidacy was seemingly unassailable in the circumstances of the 2015 national politics, it is clear to all discerning pundits that the actions, in-actions and choices of the party’s national leaderships were mainly responsible for the creation of these unfavourable political circumstances. ” he further said
According to him,to a great extent, the party leaderships could be said to be mainly responsible for the party’s defeat.
The former governorship aspirant called upon all members of the NWC and the leadership of the BOT to honourably resign their offices, and let the President as the leader of the party appoint an interim committee of distinguished members of high degree of honesty, integrity and justice with good knowledge and understanding of Nigeria’s politics and history.
Ardo advocated that such persons should hold the party for at least three months within which to conduct free, fair and credible elections that would usher in responsible and credible party leaderships across the country.
He said that he advocated for their resignation,as a concerned member and stakeholder of the party in Adamawa State.
Adding,” The president has saved the nation by accepting defeat with equanimity, it is now for him to save the party by accepting this advice thereby leaving behind a solid base of internal democracy in the PDP. This is a duty the president owes the party and the nation.”
