In their first meeting after the general elections, the Security Council and the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan have discussed the handing over power to the President elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
The council and Mr. Jonathan also discussed the ongoing onslaught on terrorists in the North Eastern region.
The Service Chiefs, including Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff, Usman Jibrin; and Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu; attended the meeting.
Also, the Director General of the State Security Service, Ekpeyong Ita, and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, were at the meeting.
Mr. Jonathan had ordered the service chiefs alongside other heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies to turn in their handover notes before April 20 to ensure the early preparation of his handover note.
The Nigerian military, since February 14, has recovered several territories occupied by Boko Haram insurgents, dislodging the militants from key towns like Baga, Bama and Gwoza.
But the most notable territory still controlled by Boko Haram, Sambisa, has still now been recovered.
The National Security Adviser, Dasuki Sambo, however, promised that the military would recover the territory before the Mr. Buhari is sworn in. Mr. Sambo cited bad weather as the reason the territory is still under capture.
None of the Service Chiefs agreed to speak with journalists after the meeting.
