Missing Corpse Found By a Fisherman In River State Near ''UNIPORT''

The people of Choba community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, were stunned yesterday as the corpse of a resident earlier declared missing was discovered in Choba River by some fishermen.
The corpse of Mr. Chinenye Eke, who was confirmed missing by Rivers Police, was yesterday seen floating on the waters of Choba River in the state capital.
A source from the compound where Eke and his family used to live, told Vanguard that the wife of the deceased said on Friday night that a phone call from her husband woke her from sleep and when she checked, she discovered that her husband was not in the room and was the one calling.

The source also said that when the wife picked the call, the only thing that the husband said was: “Darling, I am going to the river to drown myself.”
The source said when the woman asked the guard if he saw her husband going out, the man said he did not see him. She added that since that night, Eke did not return and efforts to trace his whereabouts proved abortive until his body were seen floating in the river.
An eye witness said, on condition of anonymity, that the corpse looked like a man that was strangled other than one that drowned as his stomach was not distended and his face bruised.
In the meantime, the Choba Divisional Police Headquarters has confirmed the incident.
A senior Police officer told Vanguard that the death is pathetic, adding that the man died with bruises on his face showing that he may have been hacked to death.
She declined further information but said investigation was ongoing.
