Bricklayer falls to death on Sallah day after getting drunk

               A 49-year-old bricklayer, Mr. Timothy Olubunmi, died on Monday afternoon, when he fell from the upper floor of an uncompleted storey building after getting drunk.
                  It was gathered that Olubunmi was one of the bricklayers working at the ongoing modern market in Ibafo, Ogun State.


Reports say he had gone to celebrate the Sallah break with his friends, and had got drunk in the process.

According to eyewitnesses, Olubunmi, had fallen from one of the uncompleted buildings in the market, and died when he landed on his neck.

When our correspondent got to the scene of the incident, a resident, who gave his name as Samuel, said the sad event took all of them by surprise as they still saw the deceased when he came to work in the morning.

He said, “We saw Timothy in the morning when nothing was wrong with him. In fact, he had come to work before he left to enjoy the celebration with his friends. 

The incident happened on Monday afternoon when he returned from the celebration. He fell from a one-storey building in the market where he was both a bricklayer and a supervisor.

“Some of the eyewitnesses said he had become drunk and this was noticed in the way he was talking. Shortly after he headed for the building, we heard that he fell and landed on the ground on his neck.”

Another resident, who begged for anonymity, added that before Olubunmi, who was father of two children, could be rushed to a nearby hospital for attention, he had died.

It was further learnt from witnesses that Olubunmi, an Osun State Indigene, was noticed in the afternoon with some of his friends taking drinks at a beer shop.

Our correspondent gathered that policemen attached to the Ibafo Police Division evacuated the remains of the deceased.

It was learnt that the body of the deceased had been deposited by the police at a morgue in Sagamu, Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, while confirming the incident, added that the police found out that Olubunmi was drunk.

He said, “Yes, a bricklayer on Monday fell at the Ibafo Market site, and died. The police actually found out that he was drunk, and the fall was so tragic that he lost his life.”
