MRS Endurance Ogedegbe, widow of chairman of Oghara Vigilante Group in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Benson Ogedegbe, who was shot dead on Tuesday by soldiers of the 19 Battalion, Nigeria Army, Koko Barracks, said yesterday that soldiers killed her husband because he constituted a stumbling block to crude oil bunkering business.
She fingered an infamous criminal in the area (names withheld), who she alleged contacted his accomplices in the army to eliminate her husband.
Mrs. Ogedegbe, who spoke with Vanguard at Oghara, said: “My husband had skirmishes with a notorious hoodlum (names withheld) who is a dangerous criminal in this community. He aids armed security men in a thriving crude oil bunkering business in this area, a crime that my husband severally frustrated, being the head of vigilante in the area.
“The hoodlum, who got irritated by the hard stance of my husband against the illegal business he is doing here with soldiers would stop at nothing to eliminate my husband, and eventually sought the assistance of soldiers, his cohorts.
‘’They promptly shot him dead in broad day light on Tuesday. I want the federal and state governments to bring the killers of my husband to book.”
The bereaved wife called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police to bring the killers of her husband to book.
She asserted that since the incident, life had become unbearable for the family of 12 left behind by the deceased, saying he was the breadwinner.
Mrs. Ogedegbe, who shed tears as she spoke, said the premature death of her husband had thrown the children and the entire family into suffering.
