No fewer than 35 persons have been jailed between January and June, 2015  for vandalizing  oil pipelines across the country, Commandant-General, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, has said.
The CG stated that 350 others were apprehended by the NSCDC with the assistance of other security agencies for the same offense and are undergoing trial
.
The NSCDC boss, who said this on Monday in Abuja at a crucial meeting with top officers of the corps, explained that the agency is partnering with foreign security agencies to combat crime with new technology.
Sabotage, Abolurin said, is hampering the efforts of the NSCDC at fighting vandals in the oil sector, but warned that the government would not relent in bringing those involved to book.
He said the vandals have become a cartel in the country, adding that the corps needed the assistance of other security agencies to engage them, noting that communities now fight to get contract to protect oil pipelines.
Abolurin said, “We are working under a difficult situation. This year, we have arrested 350 vandals. Other security agencies helped us with the arrest of 100; thirty-five of them are in jail. We are trying others.

“Some illegal refineries are not sited in urban areas but in rural areas and we are moving into the areas to effect arrest. We also need the support of other sister agencies.
“The use of technology will work better in protecting oil pipelines in Nigeria. We are in partnership and in conversation with agencies abroad as we need new technology to combat crime.”
