Court Remands Suspects In Prison Custody

                      An Onitsha Chief Magistrates’, presided over by Mrs Nkemdilim Ike, has remanded two persons suspected of homosexual activities in prison custody pending the determination of their bail applications.
The suspects, Ebuka Anyasi (23) and Michael Ikegbunam (19) are facing a three-count charge of allegedly having carnal knowledge of two male minors.


The act allegedly lasted for seven days while both victims were locked in confinement in Okoloji Street, Odoakpu in Onitsha, Anambra.

The prosecutor, Mr Clem Nwancho, an assistant superintendent of police, submitted a three-page affidavit opposing the plea for bail for the accused persons.

Nwancho maintained that the accused would pose a threat to the society if granted bail as they allegedly had cartel of homosexuals in the state.

The defense counsel, Mr John Chukwuma, also submitted a nine-paragraph motion praying the court to grant the two bail since the offense was bailable.

In her ruling, Ike adjourned the matter to July 1 to enable her study the written applications by the parties.
