A 42-year-old man, simply identified as Sylvanus, was allegedly caught yesterday, September 10, stealing meat from his neighbour’s pot of soup in Asaba, Delta state.
Leadership reports that he escaped being lynched by an angry mob in the area, who beat him to stupor.
According to the report, the suspect tried to quickly swallow the stolen meat after he had been caught in the act.
The incident was said to have taken place around Ogbe-Osowe quarters in Asaba.
Some members of the public watched on as he endured beatings from the mob.
After much beating, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
It was gathered from sources that before the unfortunate incident, he’d had issues with his girlfriend who accused him of stealing her money from her bag.
The sources added that he had been arrested by the police on several occasions for related offences.
