Suspected assassins have reportedly killed a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly from Mbaitoli Local Government Area and a House of Representatives aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kingsley Nkemka.
He was gunned down on Tuesday, September 9, at an area known as T Junction, Ohaohia Mbeiri, Mbaitoli local government area of the state, after returning from the resumption of the House’s sitting, Leadership reports.
A statement signed by the senior special assistant on media to the speaker, Emeka Ahaneku, revealed that Nkemka was hale hearty before attending the opening session of the state house of assembly lawmakers.
On how he met his untimely death, the statement explained that after the sitting, he had gone to some of the wards in his constituency to continue his consultation with some party leaders in the area over his political aspiration.
After visiting the wards, he stopped over at the popular T-junction, Ohaohia Mbieri to meet one of his facilitators who had fixed a meeting between 8 and 9 p.m.
As the meeting came to an end, some hoodlums, numbering about five were said to have suddenly showed up at the scene. He was kicked out of his car and then shot in the ankle. He was then ordered to get into the booth of his car where they finally shot him to death.
Before his death, Nkemka was an aide of the speaker of the state’s house of assembly.
He was also aspiring to represent his people of Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.
Confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, Andrew Enwerem, disclosed that some people have been arrested in connection with the crime, adding that investigations are on-going.
