Vice-President Namadi Sambo said on Friday that all Nigerians were looking forward to a successful transition of power to the next administration.
Sambo said this at the special Juma’at service in Abuja to usher in the new government with prayers for peace and prosperity
Other prominent Nigerians also converged at the Abuja National Mosque for the service.
Sambo said the service was designed to pray for a peaceful transition and success for the incoming government.
“This special Juma’at Service is specially conducted ahead of the swearing in ceremony of a new president on May 29.
“I pray for peace and development for the incoming administration and for Allah’s guidance for the incoming leaders.
“ Nigerians are all looking forward to a successful transition of power to the next administration, and I pray that Allah answers our prayers and give our leaders the wisdom to get it right,’’ he said.
In his sermon, Malam Mohammed Adam, the Deputy Chief Imam of the Abuja National Mosque, admonished leaders to be trustworthy.
He urged Muslims to always fear Allah and treat others right when they find themselves in positions of authority.
“If Allah gives somebody a position of authority, it is a public trust.
“We all should fear Allah in managing the affairs of trust that is given to us.’’
The Imam prayed for Allah’s protection on the country and to guide the leaders aright in the decision-making process.
“We pray for the Almighty Allah to protect this country and shower His blessing on this country.
“We also pray for Allah to guide our leaders aright let them lead with justice and to make sure that the common man of this country live a decent life,’’ he said.
