Evra Signs 2year Contract With Juventus

Patrice Evra Signs Two-Year Contract With Juventus

Less than a month before the 2014/2015 English Premier League, EPL, starts, Patrice Evra has dumped Manchester United and joined Juventus.
According to a statement released by the two clubs on Monday, 21 July, 2014, the French international joined the Serie A league champions on a two-year contract. The move brings to a close the 33-year-old left back’s eight-and-a-half year stint at Old Trafford.

“After a great deal of thought I have decided the time is right for me to leave Manchester United,” the player told United’s website. “It is the biggest decision of my career as this club is, and will always remain, in my heart.”
A Juventus statement read: “Juventus football club can today announce that Patrice Evra has signed a two-year contract with the club after a fee of £1.2million, to be paid in two separate instalments, was agreed with Manchester United.

“A further payment of £300,000 will be made to Manchester United in the event of Juventus qualifying for the 2015/16 Champions League.”

As he departed, Evra also thanked former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the club’s fans.

"An immense thank you to Sir Alex for making it all possible, for giving me the privilege to be a captain and to understand that nobody is bigger than the club," he said.

"My biggest thanks go to the fans. We have had some fantastic times together and every single time I stepped out in that shirt I knew I was playing for a very special club."

Evra joined United in January 2006 from Monaco for £5.5m and won five Premier League titles.

He signed a one-year extension to his contract in May, but asked to leave when Juventus approached United over his availability.

Evra would have been competing for a starting berth next season against £27m signing Luke Shaw.

He made 379 appearances for United and as well as Premier League success.

The experienced defender was part of the France side that made it to the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.

Four years ago, he was the captain who led a team protest that unsettled the French team at the World Cup hosted by South Africa.

Prior to Evra’s departure, Red Devils executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has told United fans to expect more signings over the next few weeks as new manager Louis van Gaal attempts to build a side capable of competing for the Premier League title.
