Dead bodies of three children were this morning discovered
abandoned at two points along 2nd East Circular Road in Benin, Edo state by
unknown persons.
Two of the bodies which were already decomposing, were
wrapped and put in a cardboard box and placed under a palm tree along the road
while the third, a girl of about a year and two months, was dumped less than 30
meters away from the others along the road by Uwa street junction, Pm News reports.
A resident on East Circular road, Victor Imonitie, said it
was time authorities began monitoring pregnant women in the country, especially
young girls.
“I think the government should begin registering all
pregnant women in the country and monitor them for at least two years after
giving birth, because any of these young girls getting pregnant
indiscriminately could do such things,” he said.
As at the time of filling this report, police officials from
Esigie Police Division were seen making arrangements for the evacuation of the
dead bodies.
