She was received in audience by the wife of South Africa’s President, Mrs Jacob Zuma and other top government representatives.
The President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, who hosts African first ladies, has praised them for what he calls their enormous efforts to stimulate peace and growth on the continent.
AFLPM had been in the front of campaigning for the cause of protecting women and children in conflict areas under Mrs. Jonathan’s guidance.
The organization also followed capacity structure for women groups, contributed relief materials to victims of conflicts in the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Sudan and Niger.
The second AFLPM meeting was held in March, where the first lady campaigned for the acknowledgment of the Mission at the UN as an observer.
The bureau was found to promote peace and harmony in Africa in 1995 after the International Conference on women in Beijing, China.
The initiative was taken by the first ladies of Nigeria, Gambia, Benin, Uganda, Lesotho and Burundi to launch a mission of peace to the rest of Africa.
